T O HAVE TWO RAILROADS

T he Santa Fe Company is not bluffing and the S. & N. won't back down.

S earchlight, Nev. -The question has long agitated the camp as to whether the Santa Fe Railroad really intended to build into Searchlight or whether the surveying which was Being done for the past few months by their engineers was, for the purpose of scaring off the Searchlight &,Northern. We can now assure our readers that the question has been definitely settled by formal action of the Santa Fe, and that they will proceed to build with all possible dispatch.

O fficial action has been taken by the Santa Fe railroad officials on question of building the road to Searchlight from Barnwell. This action is positive and completely sidetracks all reports and rumor heretofore circulated asserting that there would be a Compromise between the two proposed roads. Col. C. A. Hopkins in an interview this week assured The Searchlight that he had received telegrams from A, G. Wells, General manager, of the Santa Fe, that final action had been taken in the matter and that the company had decided to build the road on their own resources. The company's Engineers are still in the, field and their progress, while necessarily slow, will Probably complete their line in a short time.

C ol. Hopkins says that it is his opinion that a daily service will be maintained, and this is borne out by the fact that if a mail contract is let to the company, daily service will be necessary.

R egarding the contracts for the grading of the road, laying of ties, rails and rolling stock, etc., nothing is known at present.

T he fact, that the Santa Fe has posi tively decided to build in Searchlight will not Effect the plans of the Searchlight & Northern Ry. in any respect

G. H. McClintock, an officer of the S. & N. Ry., returned from a it trip to Los Angeles, and said in interview: "We have gone too far on this proposition to back Down. Our road will positively be built, and I have the assurance from Dr. Homer A. Hansen, our president, that what ever funds are necessary will be immediately Forthcoming. That The Santa Fe has also decided to build will have no effect Whatever on our plans, and if Searchlight needs two railroads, it is certain now that it will have them. It, is, my candid opinion that there is business enough in sight here for the two roads. Our preliminary survey is nearly completed and we will be ready to work on grading within a very short time.
