Bennett Pass Charcoal Kiln, Lincoln County !

Feb 12th, 2006, Wesley and I finally found the charcoal kiln. It was a very crude built kiln and dates back before 1874. It was used when the Mormon first came to Panaca. The smelter at Bullionville created a great need for charcoal.
It looks more like a rock pit, rather than an kiln. But most of the stones were burnt on the inside. Not far from here is a very nice pile of fossil embedded rock. I was lucky to find a few good samples.
On the way up to the kiln we pasted this very funny shaped rock. I just had to stop and take a photo.
