In Memory of my Partner
Brian Furthmeyer !
|
1948 to 2005, Brian will be missed by all that knew him well. He died at 11:00 am on Thanksgiving day.
I first met Brian in 1997 when I came out her to Vegas, but it
was not till 2000, that I got to know him well. Brian and I have spent many, many hours sitting around the old camp fire. He had a great love
for photography and really enjoyed taking the photos of all the old historic places we visited. He never was one to be around a lot of people. I had
to keep all of our trips mostly solo, except when I would bend his elbow to let Brenda come a long.
|
He was also camera shy, in the beginning he never would let
me post any of the photos with him in them. For that reason you will not see Brian in very many. Pictures of Brian and I are rare as well. I had Brenda
carry her camera and every chance she got, she would try and get us together. Another love he had was of history, many times he said he was born a hundred years to late. He just love the old days, and talked of them all the time.

He really liked this photo for some reason, he said it would be our
magazine cover shot some day. In the beginning, Brian spent many long hours planning our trips. He would read about some old town back in the old days, and we would have to go find it. A lot of his planning took us over some really bad roads, actually they were not roads at all. These are what Brian referred to as our long cuts, short in distance but long in travel time. This also led to some really good adventures. His ashes will spread here at Jack Longstreet's Red Rock Ranch, a ghosttowner to the end!
|
I do have many photos of Brian like this one, he would stand and look out over the distance for the longest of time. I think he really enjoyed Nevada, but his real love was Colorado. We were always going to do Colorado after we covered Nevada, we just never made it.

Here is the kind of shot for which I have many, always the backside as he would take photos of ever shack we found. He was always going to write a book about our adventures. We never could agree on which ones to write about, so he never got a chance to do it. Some day I will have to try and put it all in words, I don't think he would want our best adventures told, it would give out our little secret that few knew about.
|
This is the one photo that Brian really liked. He was always proud about having his photo taken with Stanley. After enjoying endless hours on the trail with him, I will miss his company greatly. I feel we have lost a real ghosttowner when we lost Brian. He was the reason I started my web site. I have lost one of the best friends I have ever had!
