Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota !

When my Mother passed away in April, 2002 I got all of my Dads trunks. In one of his trunks was a lot of pictures.

He lived in Lead for a few years and this is one of the old Post Cards and a couple of photos I found.

After Custer had his big stand , a year later the Black Hills were pretty much taken over by the whites. Thousands poured into the Black Hills looking for thier fortunes. But most of them searched for rich Placer in the Deadwood Gulch.

Now three miles south east of Deadwood Gulch four men found one of the biggest strikes ever. Alex Engh, Hank Harney, and Fred and Moses Manual discovered gold on April 9, 1876. The claim was called the Homestake Mine!
