Tempiute Nevada!

Tempiute was the result of the 1868 Silver discovery close to Grants Peak in Lincoln county. Ore assayed between $72 and $300 per ton and by 1870 the town sprang up to a population of 50. After the mill in Crescent shut down a lot of the miners left the area. The comeback occurred around 1874 but this time the ore was shipped to Tybo but ceased the same year.

Around 1916 Tungsten was discovered to the north but nothing became of it till 1940 when a mill was built and the site also took the name of Tempiute. This site grew to around 700 people and the Lincoln Mine operated till about 1957. When the prices dropped the mine was closed but still remains behind locked gates waiting for a price increase before reopening.

On our first trip we got the lader day Tempiute, Brians the one who found the Historical town site on the map. So we added it to our April 13 & 14 2002 trip.

I was really surprised that they would be so much left here to see. There were probably a dozen ruin sites up through here.

A few of them were qiute large, as you see here. One of them was even dug into the mountain, pictures at bottom.

This opening led to a under ground room. TJ my grandson and Brian went in to check it out. You the both of them in the photo below.
